Land based WIFI during your Alaskan Cruise

Alaska is one of the more challenging destinations for wifi and cell service. When more than a couple of cruise ships dock, demand is very high because passengers are trying to avoid paying the high rates of slow cruise ship service. Similarly, when school is out of session, demand is high because kids are gaming and streaming.

For our 2025 cruise to Alaska, here is how it shakes out:

  • Friday: Seattle

    • no free wifi from the port

    • anticipate only having phone service for an hour or so after departure

  • Saturday: At Sea

    • no wifi

  • Sunday: Ketchikan (has AT&T 5G phone service)

    • Asylum Bar

      • wifi is free with restaurant purchase

    • the Ward Cove Cruise Ship Building

      • no seating

  • Monday: Endicott Arm (aka Sea Day)

  • Tuesday: Skagway (has AT&T 5G phone service)

    • Skagway Public Libary, 10am-10pm.

    • Cajun Spice Restaurant

    • Shore Line Park Bathrooms

    • Centennial Park Bathrooms

  • Wednesday: At Sea

    • no wifi

  • Thursday evening: Victoria BC Canada - check your phone plan to see if Canada is roaming or not!!

    • Ogden Point Terminal

    • many local businesses

Keep in mind that the ship’s app allows you to chat with other passengers while on board, and our Trip Plans app will have all the classroom materials you need, available offline. If you have an Apple device, we can also use AirDrop to transfer files.

I hope that helps you decide if it is worth purchasing the on-board wifi package.
